I graduated summa cum laude in B.Sc. (Biometry/Genetics) in 2002 from the University of KwaZulu Natal (Pmb), with 15 certificate of merits obtained over the course of my undergraduate degree. In 2003 I completed my Honours, cum laude, with 2 certificate of merits and as the most distinguished Honours student.
I commenced my career in 2004, working as a biometrician at the South African Sugarcane Research Institute. Since then I have gained extensive and in depth experience in: statistical analysis and experimental designs of both agricultural and non-agricultural data; management of a data processing team as well as training and mentoring students and scientists.
In 2013 I completed my Masters at the University of Stellenbosch. My paper, based on my Masters project “The development, validation and implementation of a drought stress index for the evaluation of the drought tolerance potential of South African sugarcane”, won me the Young Statisticians prize for Africa (2014), held by the International Biometrics Society. I was invited to present my paper at the International Biometry Conference held in Florence, Italy between the 6 July to 11 July 2014.
I have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills backed by a positive attitude and a drive to succeed. My success over the years has been underpinned by the key attributes of: honesty, transparency, concern for people, focus on the key issues, commitment, drive for success and a strong sense of ownership of the organization and its goals.
