Urgentem's main office is Located in London, UK. We are open to candidates from all corners of the world, however, candidates from other time zones will be required to be available for some crossover with GMT working hours.
This is an exciting time to join Urgentem. We recently launched a climate-risk platform which provides a holistic vantage point of company emissions with an array of analytics and data for risk management purposes. The new technology platform enables Urgentem's clients to clearly understand their portfolio emissions and climate risks, meet regulatory and fiduciary reporting requirements and navigate the transition to a sustainable economy.

In just a few months we have enjoyed client wins including Central Banks, Pension Funds, Global Asset Managers and Hedge Funds.

About the role:
Urgentem is looking for a highly motivated, creative, and hard working individual to join the Data team in the field of sustainable finance. The role is a position within a dynamic eco-fintech company. This is a chance to be a part of a dynamic organisation that operates in a fast-growing area of finance. The experienced candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong data and analytical skills, as well as proficiency in the necessary technologies (R/Python/ MongoDB).
You should be able to work well in a hard-working, friendly environment, be results- oriented and have a strong affinity for sustainability, sustainable finance and the company mission. As a small, motivated team with a flat structure, the opportunities to learn, create an impact and grow your role within the organisation are considerable.
Responsibilities and duties:
  • Work within the Climate Risk and Data team and provide assistance in python and R programming, data wrangling, and data pipelines.
  • Be involved in product development and write technical documentations and specs.
  • Research and Development of new modules in the Urgentem Element6 platform.
  • Research and Development into other products including equity index creation, carbon pricing, and wider asset class climate risk analysis.
  • Mentor and train interns when required.
  • Support the marketing and research efforts of the company as and when r equired i.e. writing blogs, attending events etc.

  • Proficiency in R and Python, will be required to pick up MongoDB
  • Quickly learn new technologies as needed
  • A good understanding of climate change issues in the context of material risks for financial institutions
  • A good understanding of finance
  • Strong prioritisation, organisational and project management skills
  • Good qualitative and quantitative research and data analysis skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Flexible, diligent and collaborative working style with a proven record of working within a team to deliver projects successfully
  • P roficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Other languages are an advantage
Ideal candidate:
At Least 2 years experience as a programmer or quantitative analyst or climate finance analyst with a hedge fund or asset manager or bank in a risk/ trading function would be preferable.
A typical profile would be an engineering graduate from a leading engineering school or university with subsequent experience and/or training in finance, a PhD student close to completion of his/her doctorate in one of the hard sciences, in finance or in economics, or a Postdoctoral fellow.
