Quantitative Research Analyst

Support senior analysts within Research and Design to design new S&P Dow Jones Indices covering potentially all asset classes. Analysts are assigned to (but may rotate across) a dedicated team with a particular product focus such as equities, thematics, factors, multi-asset, fixed income, commodities etc Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), climate and other sustainable investing objectives are often dominant themes in the indices to be designed. Experience in portfolio construction techniques and financial theories is required in delivering innovative index solutions and analysis to clients.

A high level of numeracy, expertise in programming, and the ability to handle large number of data sets will be critical to the role. Effective communication of the work and its conclusions is also essential.

The role would benefit from someone with an awareness of topical market trends and a desire to translate investment objectives into systematic and actionable index strategies. The role will encompass all elements of the index design lifecycle; including background research, client-engagement, data gathering, back-testing and finalizing index methodologies.

The role may also require contribution on our thought leadership program by contributing to presentations and research and product papers. Finally, the role may also involve support in the construction of new platforms and processes to enable a more effective and efficient environment for the team.

Accountabilities:

  • Support in the research and design of new indices
  • Access, clean and transform complex datasets
  • Build a comprehensive understanding of the process behind and availability of data from our providers
  • Back-test the performance of index concepts to assess fulfilment of investment objectives
  • Utilize programming skills in a proficient manner to:
    • ensure robust and efficient index design
    • build internal platforms and tools to improve capabilities and resolve repeatable processes
  • Write finalized index methodology documents for external use
  • Prepare and update presentation slides for internal and external events

Other Responsibilities:

  • Work within Global Research and Design and other departments to manage projects that will facilitate the design of new indices.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate to a number of internal and external stakeholders.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrate an appreciation of asset classes and financial theories that underpin portfolio & index construction.
  • Masters Degree. Advanced degree in computer science, math, engineering, economics, or finance strongly preferred.
  • Commitment to studying the CFA
  • Knowledge of Python strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently and in collaboration with other team members multiple projects.
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original, non-routine problems in a timely and insightful manner.
