The Business Unit

Cambridge English is a part of Cambridge Assessment, a department of the University of Cambridge. We are the global leader in English language assessment. We help people learn English and prove their skills to the world. We provide exams in English for speakers of other languages taken by over 5 million candidates worldwide each year, as well as the leading range of qualifications for language teachers.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Data Analyst with a passion for working with data and strong numerical skills to join the Data & Analytics department of Cambridge English. The Senior Data Analyst will provide data analysis and psychometric support for a variety of English language and admissions tests. You will take responsibility for evaluating test data and producing statistical reports to a demanding schedule that requires accuracy and attention to detail. Additionally, the Senior Data Analyst will identify innovative solutions to improve the processes and systems used in Data & Analytics: designing, developing and testing new analysis and data processing routines (e.g., by creating SAS programs) for departmental use.

You must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills for dealing effectively with colleagues and clients at all levels. The ability to work as part of a team and to prioritise and time manage projects is essential.

If you have the required qualifications and feel ready for the challenge of working for one of the world's leading assessment agencies, please apply now.

What you will be doing

  • A major part of this role involves carrying out statistical and data analysis to ensure our examinations provide valid and accurate results. This encompasses areas such as evaluating the performance of test materials, malpractice detection and examiner monitoring.
  • The business has a strong process improvement culture to which the post holder will contribute through the development and/or testing of software to ensure optimum efficiency and efficacy of departmental processes.
  • The post holder will also be required to provide technical support for ad-hoc data requests and to assist in research activities such as long-term educational development projects and the development of new analysis methods.

What we are looking for

  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • A first-degree academic qualification, with a focus on statistics, mathematics, computing, psychology, language testing, educational measurement, or social sciences is desirable.
  • Programming experience in languages such as SAS, R and Python is highly desirable.
  • Experience of assessment and educational measurement is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of data management, statistical analysis and quantitative research methods are highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet and database software (e.g., Excel, Access, MySQL Workbench).
  • The ability to work under pressure and attention to detail.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
  • Strong prioritisation and time management skills.

The key to our work is our colleagues, whose shared commitment enables us to have an ever-greater impact. We are a united, vibrant, and respectful global community of people, and we ensure that every individual is recognised, listened to, and cared for. And because our impact is amplified when our people are empowered, we give everyone the opportunity to develop in their own way. Whether you want a career that's linear, or want to follow your own path, we'll support you, and help give you the resources and training you'll need to be bold and take ownership of what you do.

The closing date for application is 5 September 2021. Interview dates to be confirmed.

To apply, please upload your CV and covering letter.
