Please be aware that this is an office-based contract, however we are trialling hybrid office-home working. We support flexible working, and all working arrangements will be considered.

This role provides specialist technical expertise in data collection, analysis, best practice, and policy - all of which are essential to delivering the aims of the COVID Research Coordination & Learning (COVID CIRCLE) initiative. They will be the most senior member of the COVID CIRCLE team within UKCDR and as such will have high-profile responsibilities including major external stakeholder relationship management and decision making.

A key activity will be leading a major review of the large and complex database of the COVID-19 Research Projects Tracker (>13,000 research projects). The role-holder will be responsible for assessing current data collection, coding, validation and analysis practices through independent working and stakeholder liaison. The post-holder will provide recommendations to senior management at UKCDR, GloPID-R & SCOR Board for improving practice and significantly influencing and informing future strategic directions. Although this work will be largely an independent endeavor, there will be crucial liaison with the Research Lead at GloPID-R to ensure alignment with overall programme aims.

COVID CIRCLE Background

The COVID CIRCLE initiative was launched in August 2020 and is a partnership between the UK Collaborative for Development Research (UKCDR) and the Global Research Collaboration for Infectious Disease Preparedness (GloPID-R) that enables the alignment of research funders towards a coherent effort for supporting COVID-19 research in, for and with low- and middle-income countries. COVID CIRCLE coordinates funding efforts, connects networks of researchers, and collates learnings to inform future epidemic and pandemic responses with a focus on lower-resource settings to improve responses within this outbreak and for future outbreaks.

Essential:

  • Master's degree; Batchelor's degree plus professional qualification, or equivalent, including MBA; some chartered professions and post graduate professional qualifications
  • Relevant work experience in the research sector, particularly in global health and infectious disease.
  • A global understanding of the research funding landscape, and the impacts of COVID-19
  • Experience independently leading complex research analysis projects to tight deadlines
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills e.g., STATA, R etc.
