Congenica have an exciting opportunity for a Bio-Statistician to join their growing team based in Hinxton, Cambridge.

Job Title: Bio-Statistician

Location: Hinxton, Cambridge

Salary: Negotiable (depending on skills & experience)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Type of Contract: Permanent

Bio-Statistician - The Job:

We are looking for a Bio-Statistician to join our quickly growing team. Their role will be to develop and validate complex statistical models, concerning multivariate data sets to draw targeted conclusions from noisy and non-uniform information. You will be working on a wide variety of clinical datasets and on data sourced from various sequencing technologies to generate insight into the genetic disease-causing mechanisms of genetics variants.

As part of a multidisciplinary team you will help to investigate some of the most difficult regions of the genomic field, helping to inform clinical scientists and researchers the world over. This role gives you the opportunity to work with petabytes of complex data in the exciting and rapid expanding area of clinical genetics in a fast scaling and friendly start-up company.

Bio-Statistician - Main Responsibilities:

- Design and build statistical models and frameworks to expand the company\'s bio data analysis capabilities

- Take part in the writing and championing of excellent quality data analysis algorithms, purposed for the task of engineering and processing large-scale biological data Investigate and clean complex and varied data for the purposes of drawing meaningful conclusions regarding the project\'s main question

- Utilise and develop algorithms to efficiently manage large and heterogeneous data

- Take part in the knowledge sharing culture at Congenica, training and teaching members of the team as is needed for the project Additional Responsibilities

- Help identify important insights from genetic data and innovative analysis methods

- Work with software engineers to construct analytical tools and pipelines to exploit the developments at scale Ensure workflows meet business requirements and industry practices

- Produce presentations, write documentation, and white papers as needed by the company Terms & Conditions

Bio-Statistician - Knowledge, skills and Qualifications:


- Bayesian Statistical Modelling Big data statistics and analysis

- Programming experience (ideally Python)

- Interaction with databases such as bulk data entry, querying


- Variety of other languages, e.g. R, Octave, Perl, Java, Experience with machine learning algorithms, graph theory Experience with Maximum likelihood statistical analysis Experience with next generation sequencing technology

- Version control tools e.g. Git

- Complex data visualisation and analysis Data processing

- Working as part of a data analysis team

- Reporting and documentation

- Working in an agile environment


- Qualification in a statistics related area at post graduate level or with substantial working experience in this area


- Qualifications in Biology &/or Genetics

- Dissertation or thesis project involving Bayesian modelling or machine learning

Bio-Statistician - Benefits:

- 25 days of annual holiday, increasing by one day per year to a maximum of 30 days
