Job Purpose:

Working for the Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Development Manager, the Business/Commercial Analyst will provide financial, commercial and business analysis support to the Distributed Energy Resources Development Manager. They will provide direct assistance and inputs to the monitoring of compliance, preparation of monthly (and ad-hoc) reports and business statistics. Broadly they will be responsible for supporting the development of services to all Distributed Energy Resources (DER) customers. The role holder will be responsible for working closely with all areas of the business/directorates to establish consistency of approach and to deliver improvements to the service offering that aligns with brand values and demonstrates our commitment to being the best Distribution Network Operator (DNO).

Delivering exceptional service to our customers is vital. Therefore, the role holder will need to demonstrate exceptional people skills and an ability to work on their own initiative.

Dimensions
The fifth price control review, DPCR5 (Apply online only)), increased the focus on the role networks would need to play to facilitate the transition to a low carbon economy. The take up of low carbon technologies, particularly distribution connected photovoltaic (PV) and wind farms has continued in the current price control period. More recently these have been supplemented with applications for the electrification of transport and demand response services which will be required as we transition from a DNO to a Distribution System Operator (DSO).

Principal Accountabilities:
Undertake any range of projects designed to support or improve the business efficiency of the DER function. This may include financial, contractual, legal, training support, business process, regulatory or compliance activities. (Past examples have included DG mapping tool, Pin on a Map and Milestones)
Monitor and manage compliance including operating and controlling the DG database and develop similar levels of compliance with emerging technologies
Prepare for review and submit to Directors/Connections senior managers and the UKPN regulatory team (when appropriate) monthly, quarterly, year-end and ad-hoc reports
Produce data for reporting to Ofgem/BEIS as necessary
with internal audit, business systems and Connections commercial services staff on compliance audit and regulatory matters
Liaise and work with other business/commercial analysts to ensure overall compliance and produce shared business statistics
Working with the DER Development Manager undertake analysis of DER business activities/performance and other data and make recommendations for process improvements
Manage planning, delivery, and cost of DER customer workshops/forums
Collate and review feedback from workshops/forums and any other relevant sources to assist in development of improved/best in class services
Assist in the development of service level improvements
Review and act on any relevant industry information
Extensive stakeholder engagement both internally and externally.
Carry out regular market intelligence reporting
Carry out post implementation reviews for each project delivery phase where appropriate identifying lessons learned
Analyse and produce management information as required
Ensure external website is up to date and contains relevant information.
Benchmarking against other DNO's
Provide regular reports and management information on service provider performance
Maintain programme of internal/external communications and awareness

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
Preferably educated to Degree/HNC level in business or equivalent in a relevant subject (with suitable equivalent experience )
Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements associated with the development of a low carbon economy and distributed energy resources
Excellent working knowledge of SAP and ability to produce and analyse reports
Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing and the ability to engage and present complex information to the company's senior managers
Ability to work on own initiative and manage and reprioritise workload
Excellent proven investigative and analytical skills
Excellent PC skills including comprehensive knowledge in use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Experience of preparing detailed and accurate documentation to often tight deadlines
Proven ability to be able to provide excellent customer service in dealing with both internal and external customers
Proven ability to work as a member of a team and on own initiative
Proven desire and ability to see through a problem
High degree of creativity and innovation
Must be able to deliver against challenging timescales and deadlines
Excellent networking skills - ability to find out and apply best practice ideas from other business units and organisations
Work with operational teams to create solutions for customers and the business

Nature and Scope:
The ESI and UK Power Networks are entering a critical phase as the move towards a low carbon economy increases. The advent of the DER Development Manager and this role are aimed at ensuring UK Power Networks is able to respond to regulatory changes and develop business strategies that support these and the needs of customers.

The role holder will be required to work with key members of the Connections Directorate as well as with key personnel from other Directorates.
