Retail Systems Delivery Analyst

Background Information on the Position

The Retail Systems Delivery team is responsible for delivering robust and sustainable change into the EPOS and Payments arena. This includes the analysis and deployment of software and also upgrades and patches into the live estate.

The individual will be responsible for helping to innovate change and mitigate production support demand by developing and adopting a structured and a methodical way of working. As well as working very closely with 3rd party suppliers they must also be able to represent POS at all business levels in both a technical and a business facing capacity. They must be capable of translating business requirements into technical solutions. This individual will have strong technical background and the ability to mentor other individuals in the team drawing on past experience and proven knowledge.

Although the team's focus will be the delivery of change, they will also be the 3rd line escalation point for exceptional support circumstances, otherwise dealt with by the Retail Systems Support Team. The individual should be proactive and forward thinking, highlighting opportunities for cross skilling and possible migration of support tasks

Major Challenges

Our client operate with an extremely complex POS environment. With 800 tills in one location using two independent propositions (restaurant and retail), making changes to software and administering configuration becomes difficult. With the added complexity of concessions that often require an individual set up and Airports that operate independently, the landscape presents a unique challenge.

This makes the reality of trialing and piloting new concepts more challenging. In addition, major outages in a single location are catastrophic to the business operation.

In a fast paced business, this individual will need to readily react to changing circumstances, be dynamic, with an aptitude for picking up new concepts quickly, not afraid to challenge process and offers a pragmatic approach to complex problem solving.

Be able to work in a high pressured environment displaying a solid judgement and composed work ethic. Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work solo or as part of a wider cross functional spectrum; the ideal candidate must demonstrate and eagerness to learn but also the desire to help and mentor our existing team. Knowledge/Experience/Skills

DELIVERY & SERVICE

* Ensure delivery of quality solutions, on-time and on-budget with effective support model to meet required SLA
* Pro-active approach to reducing solution defects and rework
* Attention to detail - deliver solutions which meet the business requirement whilst considering Supportability and architectural principles.
* Help empower the support function to self-sufficient through education
* enforce adherence to formal process for incident management, escalation and BAU demand
* Take ownership of deliverables, where appropriate complete relevant documentation
* Help put IT POS on the front foot, what can WE provide to the business, rather than what the business wants us to do.

TEAM

* Ensure open and clear communication promoting working practises built around trust and team work, supporting core business competencies

CORE TECHNICAL

* Proven Track record of successful delivery into Point of Sale systems, e.g. Retail Java, BTE Store 6 and BeanStore
* A solid understanding of J2EE and WebService components, e.g. Tomcat, IBM Websphere
* Experience and proven capability to undertake JAVA development tasks
* Experience of low level SCCM interaction. Ideally configuration, build and deployment knowledge
* Experience using the eclipse framework, exposure and working knowledge of Docker would be advantageous
* An appreciation of EFT principles and APACS with experience of auth and settlement analysis
* A solid technical understanding of the Windows operating platform, preferably Windows Embedded
* Substantial Database exposure, with an understanding of key Database concepts.
* A demonstrable understanding of network infrastructure, DNS and DHCP
* Experience of POS testing lifecycle, an appreciation for the different testing phases. Accreditation and performance testing for example
* Knowledge of operational aspects of IT - RTO, RPO, DR, Business Continuity

PROJECT DELIVERY

* Good analytical skills with an aptitude for problem resolution
* Reliable and able to work to deadlines, with the ability to self-organise
* Demonstrate a wider business awareness, understand the impact work has within overall landscape
* Support project manager by providing input into project planning sessions
* A sound understanding of agile and waterfall methodologies, and the impact they have on delivery
